Spoilers: Takes place after the end of the movie, but it doesn't spoil anything, unless for some reason you didn't think Ginger and Rocky would get together or that the chickens would escape.
Disclaimer: Aardman rules!
Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] castiron for Yuletide 2006. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] minnow1212, [livejournal.com profile] jinian and [livejournal.com profile] kate_nepveu for the beta! I tried to go off Cast Iron's prompt of how the island ever got to be populated with chickens, except much like Nick and Fetcher, I couldn't think of a plausible way either, and the thought of chicken sex mostly just broke my brain. My current theory is that all the chicks are Ginger and Rocky's, only fostered out to assorted hens.

Fetcher had decided a long time ago that if he ever had to go to the large rat den in the sky, it wouldn't be in yarn, much less pastel yarn. )

Spoilers: For the entire series. Very.
Disclaimer: Alas, Mizushiro Setona own these pretty boys.
Summary: Shanghai and Hong Kong during four holidays.
Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] thuviaptarth for Yuletide 2006. I saw it come up on the pinch-hit list and immediately thought, "EEEE!!!! 1999nen! MUST WRITE!" And then I saw Nana and went "EEEEE!" again. And then I saw Her Majesty's Dog. And I thought, "Oh wait. I think I know whose request this is...."

Since this is an incredibly obscure fandom and a) I want people to read my story and b) I adore this series and want to pimp it out to everyone, here are some useful links for information on the manga:
- my write up
- info on getting the scanlations off IRC

I used the solar calendar dates for both Qi Xi and the Dragon Boat Festival, since the mangaka used the solar calendar for Qi Xi in the manga. Also, I think I managed to figure out when the Dragon Boat Festival would have been in 2000, but wasn't entirely sure. I'm probably the only person bothered by this...

I'd like to thank [livejournal.com profile] yhlee and [livejournal.com profile] edonohana for the incredibly last-minute beta, particularly since neither of them was very familiar with the source.

Soon, construction will tear up the landscape, and glittering towers for the city's newest inhabitants will rise, but for now, Xianglong navigates via thin strips of light seeping through curtained windows and the stars above. )

I ended up writing two stories for Yuletide, one was my assigned one, and the other I picked up on the 20th from the pinch-hit list.

Chicken Run is a movie from the same guys who did Wallace and Gromit. It's claymation. There are a bunch of chickens trying to escape from the chicken farm, led by the plucky Ginger. The chickens have teeth and are rather goofy. The entire thing references WWII movies like Stalag 17 and The Great Escape. I love it beyond words and have rewatched it endlessly; if you haven't seen it, do! It never fails to cheer me up ("So we sneak in, all quiet-like..." "Like a fish!").

There are really no spoilers for Chicken Run or my story (Harems and Hens) below.

1999nen 7 no Tsuki Shanghai is a four-volume shounen-ai manga about gangsters in Shanghai. Dawu and Xiaoxue are members of rival gangs who end up falling in love. There is a lot of angst, but also a lot of restraint; the people in this manga don't talk about their feelings, and more amazingly, none of them believe that love will conquer all. Dawu and Xiaoxue in particular seem to know how doomed their situation is; they're looking more to snatch a few moments from the jaws of fate rather than even daring to hope to conquer fate and society. The other thing I love about the manga is how fleshed out the side characters are.

Giant spoilers below for the series, probably spoilers for my story (Holidays Past and Future).

Ah yes, it is that time of year to babble about things I wrote. Also, just for the heck of it, I'll dabble with the commentary meme again.
