This was really quite fascinating. I'm glad it gave me an excuse to read the fic again - it still gets me choked up. But the Chinese history details, and everything that went into writing it was most interesting, and adds another layer to an already beautiful story.
I have to say I think you do a wonderful job with Goku's voice, and I'm so glad to see you write him as - well, not dumb. I've come across way too many stories where Goku is written as stupid, and it's frustrating to see people miss the point you're getting across so eloquently here. Goku's intensely perceptive. Goku's smart, but one aspect of that is that he knows its okay for him to be the stupid monkey. More than okay - in some ways the others rely on that almost innocent cheerfulness to ground them in a happier place than their own angst, away from the true weight of their mission.
Ah. Well. I babble. All that to say - thanks for a very interesting read.
