Series information

Pushing Daisies is a TV show about a pie-maker who can bring people back to life by touching them. If he touches them again, they die forever. If they stay alive for longer than a minute, someone else will die.

None of this is really important; all you really need to know is that Emerson Cod is a private investigator who knits.

Some commentary

I actually wrote this prior to seeing the prompt on Yuletide, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] untrue_accounts saying there should be Emerson knitting fic. Of course, there were about a million Emerson-knits fic for Yuletide, heh.

The fic wouldn't write itself until I figured out that Emerson learned to tink before he learned to knit; otherwise, it was just a fic about knitting that didn't illuminate much about Emerson. Also, Pushing Daisies voice is haaaaard!

For non-knitters, "tink" is actually what knitters call unknitting (it's "knit" spelled backwards), Red Heart is a cheap brand of yarn known for its squeaky acrylic-ness, and I hate hate hate tinking decreases like the ones in the story. Hate.

For knitters, in my head, the knitting needle found in the dog's jaw is a magenta aluminum Boyes straight, to go with the Red Heart yarn of course ;). Also, I want my own Emerson for tinking rows and rows of lace knit in freaking mohair!

No, this is not from personal experience at all...

You know, I went to myself, "Oh, I bet Oyce would like this because it seems to get the knitting detailed and right," and then I went, "hrm. Or maybe she wrote it...?"
